Warrick Gibson scored an injury time winner to ensure that Wanderers remain in the Northern League next season. Wanderers travelled to Mt Albert Ponsonby with a win being the only result that could ensure they stay clear of the relegation playoffs. The game was tied at 1-1 in the dying minutes after Marco Rojas had scored earlier for Wanderers. With everyone pushed forward and time almost up Warrick Gibson found the back of the net to pick up a priceless 2-1 victory.

Wanderers picked up an excellent win on the weekend, beating Central 3-1 at Porritt. It was their first win since beating Tauranga in July and is a vital 3 points in their effort to stay clear of the relegation zone.Wanderers are in 9th position in the 12 team league but have games inhand on the teams around them.

Earlier in the day the reserves beat Federation league high fliers Taupo 5-3 in an entertaining game at Porritt. The reserves are currently competing in the top 8 competition as part of the Federation League. In the last two weeks they have beaten Matamata and Taupo who sit 1st and second on the table.

Most of the Waikato leagues have come to an end now with just the Cup competition remaining. The best of the Wanderers teams were the Who, finishing 2nd in the Waikato A competition.

4-3 Loss to Onehunga

4-08-08

Wanderers lost 4-3 to Onehunga on Saturday, ending their unbeaten run in the second round of the Northern League. Wanderers scored early through Sam Maposa and dominated the opening spell. Several through balls had the Onehugna defence struggling and they could have easily extended their lead. After two quick goals they were trailing 2-1 at halftime. The situation got worse when they conceded a penalty and then a long range goal to find themselves down 4-1 midway through the second half. Matt Butler lead a late fight back with two goals in the last 15 minutes but it wasn't enough to take any points out of the game.

They play their next two games away to Lynn Avon and Eastern Suburbs before hosting Central on the 23rd of August.

First Team Continue Unbeaten Run

21-07-08

The Hamilton Wanderers first team have started the second round of the Northern League in good form with an unbeaten streak stretching back to their 4-1 win over Bay Olympic on 21 June. Most recently they beat Tauranga City 3-2 (goals to Marco Rojas, Michael Mayne and Sam Maposa), although they made a few spectators sweat in that game as they lead 3-0 late in the game before Tauranga fought back. Prior to that they beat Three Kings 2-1 (both goals to Matt Butler) and drew 1-1 with Melville.

Their next home game is against Onehunga on the 2nd August. Before then they travel to Mt Albert Ponsonby.

Important Notice:

The club is holding a special meeting at 8:00pm on Thursday 24th July to discuss involvement in the club. All club members are invited to attend.

Second Leg of Local Derby

Local rivals Melville will come to Porritt Stadium this weekend for their second clash with Wanderers this season. The teams head into the game with differing recent form, Wanderers have played only one game in the last three weeks, picking up a good 4-1 win over Bay Olympic. On the other hand Melville have lost their last three games, their most recent loss saw them go out of the Chatham Cup. Wanderers are five points behind Melville on the Northern League table.

The game kicks off at 2:45pm, Saturday 5th July

The Women's A team have won the 2008 Wanderers Lip Sync with their performance of Britney Spears'  'Make  My Boobies One More Size'. Second place went to the Reserves with their performance of 'Men in Tights'.  Devo (aka the Classics) came in third with their performace of 'Whip it'. Congratulations to everyone who performed on the night, all the performances were very entertaining. Also a big thanks to everyone who turned up and to the organisers for making it such a great night.

Halfway point reached in Northern League

The first round of the Northern League has been completed and Wanderers sit in second to last place on the table with just 7 points to their name. The second round starts with a run of home games, starting with hosting Bay Olympic. They then have a week off because of Chatham Cup games and host cross town rivals Melville on the 5th of July. Three Kings and Tauranga then come to Porritt in the following weeks.

Consecutive Wins Lift First Team

Two consectuive 1-0 wins have lifted the Wanderers first team to ninth position in the Northern League. They marked their return to Porritt Stadium with a 1-0 win over Mt Albert Ponsonby. Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game. The following week they travelled to Onehunga and picked up a 1-0 away win thanks to a goal from Mark Christensen.

Their next game is against Lynn Avon who are 3rd on the table, at Porritt Stadium on Saturday 24 May (2:45 kick off)

In the Waikato leagues the Reserves, Who and Brown teams are all 3 points or less off the lead with the half way point of their respective leagues approaching fast.

Wanderers Return For First Home Game

After starting the season with five away games Wanderers will play their first home game of the season on Saturday 10 May. It has been a dissapointng start to the season for Wanderers with just one point to their name after 5 games. This will also be the first game to be played on the new number one field after drainage work has ruled out the center pitch for the season. Some good watering and rainfall has seen the new pitch looking far greener than most other fields around the Waikato after the extremely dry summer. (see photos here)

Supporters are encouraged to get down to Porritt stadium this weekend to support the first team. They play Mt Albert Ponsonby with the game kicking off at 2:45 pm. The Reserves, Classics and Brown teams also play at home on Saturday so their will be plenty of games to watch, with the Reserves being the first to kick off at 12:30

Teams Level Heading Into Derby Match

Wanderers and Melville head into this weekends local derby equal on points. Both teams have had a loss and a draw in their first two games and are only seperated by goal difference. Melville has the superior goal difference at -3, Wanderers are just behind them on -4.

The game is this Saturday (19th April) and kicks off at 2:45pm at Gower Park.

Northern League announced

Wanderers will compete in the Northern Regional Football League in 2008. The league will be made up of teams from the Auckland and Waikato - Bay of Plenty federations. The premier league for 2008 will consist of:

Central United, Eastern Suburbs, Bay Olympic, Wanderers, Tauranga, Lynn Avon, Melville, Onehunga Sports, Metro, Three Kings, Papatoetoe and Mt Albert Ponsonby.

The draw has now been released and Wanderers will play their first five games away because of work that will begin on the center pitch at Porritt Stadium. The work will mean that the center pitch is unavailable for the whole season so the second pitch (closest to the clubrooms) will be upgraded in time for the first home game.

2008 Season Underway

Its time to dust off those boots and start working off those christmas pies because preseason training has started for all senior teams for the 2008 season. New players are always welcome, just come down to Porritt Stadium on a Thursday night at 6:00 pm.

Miss Wanderverse, The Aftermath

Nine drunk guys strutting their stuff down a catwalk in womens clothing. If that isn't a recipe for disaster and a whole lot of fun, I don't know what is!

That's the jist of Miss Wanderverse and what an incredible night it was! The contestants gave it 110% and were keen to show off their womanly walk, bodies and flirtatious moves. Plenty of laughs were had at the contestants' expense and the Classics proved once again that there is nothing they can't win, winning both the runner up and the Miss Wanderverse title.

Huge thanks to Brownie, our MC, who was groped by the drunk contestants more times than a little boy on a boy scout camp; all of the wonderful women who helped make the guys look wonderful and put up with their shannagains; the judges; the two grumpy old men; the bar staff; and of course, everyone who helped organise the evening, especially Katria, Penny, Kelly and Brownie.

Videos and photos can be found by clicking here.

Do you have some photos of the night you want to share? Pass them on to Shane, Brownie, Katria, Penny or Kelly.
